The picture above leads me to question everything I ever thought I knew about photography ,I can’t decide if this is the best picture I have ever made or the worst ? Faith , hope & optimism might be a big ask during these difficult times but a positive mindset has to be found in order to see this alternative alignment of life. I wish the above statement was true but it is not , my Street Photography hit rate is much, much , much lower ! The elusive uncertainty of “Good” photography is a funny fish ! I had the good fortune of meeting Jill last year & will be seeing her again later this year. Emptiness , anonymity, isolation and community are the themes that have appeared to me in my pictures during the past months, the early pictures were much harder to find as social distancing protocols and face masks were absent from our everyday , queues and panic buying appear to have vanished now , thankfully . Normality might not be the best word to describe the alternative reality I discovered last weekend, it certainly took me by surprise ! It’s great when blind optimism is rewarded and the world conspires to align just for you , long may it continue ! Happiness, positivity and belief will always help you to find and see the light during what are dark days, regardless of the luminance ! The project consists of 170 pictures at the time of writing this, although I would expect to cull at least fifty percent of these in the series final edit , none of the images are that dramatic but collectively they are a true representative document of my life and many other peoples lives through these unusual times. Nowadays, anything from urban and graffiti images, to harsh shadows and random faces is claimed to be street photography, which, of course, it isn’t! Whoooosh , moving a world that has stopped ! The covid restrictions have locked me down into a very small English village , to be honest I have not really engaged with this place photographically until now !
